Dear Reader,

I wish you and your family a happy and prosperous new year 2019!

Since last few years IT industry has witnessed an accelerated pace of innovation. Driven by affordable mobile devices, better
internet connectivity and ever increasing adaption to digital technology, the industry is being rapidly transformed. Webel has fast
adapted itself to the changing scenario to address the requirements of the IT and ITeS industries. In last quarter majority of
Webel’s efforts have been channelled to promote emerging technologies and innovation.

Webel under the aegis of Department of IT & E has executed full day knowledge workshops on emerging technologies since March
last year. In this endeavor, we had knowledge exchange workshops on Quantum Computing on 12th October 2018 and Global
Blockchain Congress on 18th and 19th of December 2018. West Bengal’s Department of Information Technology & Electronics
has taken focused approach towards leveraging Blockchain technology to establish West Bengal as a front-runner in becoming an
emerging Technology Hub. There were participation from 9 nations in Global Blockchain Congress 2018. Government of West
Bengal, in Department of IT & E, in order to promote Blockchain technology and invited innovative solutions based on Blockchain
through “Call for Projects” in Global Blockchain Congress”. Three teams i.e. Cyberpeace-VJTI, The Energy & Resources Institute
and Oum Technology Solutions were selected as top 3 teams by the esteemed jury panel.

Webel is the proud organizer of Bengalathon nationwide competition where students, start-ups from different states competed
amongst each other to solve real life challenges using emerging technologies. Some of the key problem statements are Financial
fraud, riot prediction, toto on call, predictive claim analysis etc.

Work is in progress to setup a Centre of Innovation that would impart education and training on cutting-edge technology on
artificial intelligence, machine learning, 3D printing, cybersecurity etc to catalyse innovation. Process is started to on-board
education partner(s) from across the globe to deliver training.

I would conclude by saying Innovation is the flavour of the day and for times to come. The pace of change is unprecedented and
opportunity to shape the future is enormous. Let us all apply our minds and intellect to ride the opportunity on emerging
technology. Together we can do it. More exciting initiatives from Webel are in pipeline which I shall speak about in subsequent
editions.
