Dear Reader,
Welcome to the 22nd edition of our e – Newsletter. Since its inception in September 2013, the newsletter has come a long way in providing
readers with valuable insights into the IT & Electronic industry.
WBEIDC has emerged as a one-stop support centre for all IT investors in the state, being the nodal agency of the West Bengal Government
for promoting IT and Electronics industries. We are looking forward to attracting pioneer in the emerging technology. We are constantly
exploring new methods and practices for innovating our products and services to bring greater value to our customers through AI, Blockchain
and IoT.
In order to spread the idea of innovation and ideation, we are committed to create platforms of idea generation. Webel under the aegis of
Department of IT & E has executed full day knowledge exchange workshops on a monthly basis on emerging technology related topics. We
had knowledge exchange workshops on Internet of Things (IoT), and FinTech in the months of July and September 2018 respectively. All the
workshops were held in Biswa Bangla Convention Centre and attended by academia, professionals, entrepreneurs, investors and Senior
Government Officials.

Continuing on the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, Honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on August 13 , 2018 laid the
foundation stone of Silicon Valley hub which is proposed to come up over 200 acres of land at New Town, Rajarhat. This would be a world
class state-of-art IT hub home to international MNCs, product based organizations, R&D centres and entrepreneurs giving a huge boost to
the IT ecosystem of the State.
A pioneer initiative of Department of IT&E has launched a nationwide competition on 27th July 2018 by Honorable MIC, DIT&E, Shri Bratya
Basu. 800 new registrations have featured in Benagalathon nationwide competition with participations from West Bengal, Rajasthan, Haryana,
Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The competition has received 117 concept notes out of which 61 got selected for the next round.
The subsequent rounds are scheduled to start from 10th October 2018.
Recently, Webel has collaborated with DQ Entertainment International (Limited) to set up Webel DQE animation academy in Kolkata, Salt
Lake, Sector V. The academy has started operations with intake on first batch of one-year diploma courses on VFX and 3D in animation. More
short term and diploma courses would be launched shortly. The academy will be the preferred choice for the animation industry for skilled
resources. There is an ever growing demand of young talents with such skill sets that is imparted through the academy.
Work is in progress to setup a Centre of Innovation that would impart education and training on cutting-edge technology on machine learning,
cyber-security, 3D printing, robotics process automation etc to catalyse innovation. Process has started to onboard education partner(s) from
across the globe to deliver training.
