At the beginning Shri Aninda Chatterjee, Managing Director,
WBEIDCL welcomed the audience present for the
knowledge workshop and mentioned that the day is very
auspicious as being “Guru Purnima”. He said that the topic
is considered as one of the most important emerging
technologies. “Internet of Things” has the potential to grow
in future and gradually reshape the way we interact with the
world around us. He referred to the reports from McKinsey
which shows an estimated 127 new devises connect to the
internet every second and by 2020 the estimated number
of connected devices would grow to 30 billion worldwide.

This number is expected to keep growing exponentially in introductory speech
the next decade. IoT could have an annual economic impact of 3.9 trillion to 11.1 trillion by 2025 across many different
segments. The Government of West Bengal believes that knowledge sharing on IoT with participation from technology
leaders, industry experts and academia is the need of the hour. The aim of this workshop is to discover the scopes of
Internet of Things and identifying practical and scalable solutions pertaining to different industry sectors.
Shri Chatterjee welcomed esteemed dignitaries of the inaugural session on to the dais and requested Shri Debashis
Sen, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, DITE, Govt of West Bengal to deliver the welcome address.
