Dear Reader,
I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year 2020!

WBEIDC has emerged as a one-stop support centre for all IT investors in the state, being the nodal agency of the
Department of IT & Electronics, Government of West Bengal for promoting IT and Electronics industries. We are
looking forward to attracting pioneering technology players. Our work mantra at Webel is “Ideate, Innovate,
Educate”. We are constantly exploring new methods and practices for innovating our products and services.

In order to spread the idea of innovation and ideation, we are committed to create platforms of idea generation. Webel
under the aegis of Department of IT & E has executed full day knowledge exchange workshops on a monthly basis on
emerging technology related topics. We organized a Webinar on “Digital Transformation: Disruptions and Trends” in
November, 2019 which was attended by academia, professionals, entrepreneurs, investors and Senior Government
Officials.

A pioneering initiative of Department of IT&E has launched a nationwide competition – “Bengalathon” - on December
2019. More than 2500+ teams participated in this event from 15 States with 400+ solutions in different domains.

In November 2019, Dr Koukou Suu, MD, ULVAC Japan, CEO ULVAC, USA and Head of Global Technology and Business
Strategies for ULVAC visited Webel at Salt Lake, Kolkata to explore business venture in West Bengal. The visiting
delegates discussed investment opportunities with our Offcials.

Work is in progress to setup a Centre of Excellence with Japanese tech major Fujisoft and partners , which would impart
education and training on cutting-edge technology on machine learning, cyber-security, 3D printing, robotics process
automation etc to catalyse innovation and also to extend support to MSME clusters.

I would conclude by saying in a fast changing technological era Innovation is the flavour of the day and for times to
come. The pace of change is unprecedented and opportunity to shape the future is enormous. Let us all apply our
minds and intellect to ride the opportunity on emerging technology. Together we can do it. More exciting initiatives
from Webel are in pipeline which I shall speak about in subsequent editions.
